The mission of the OCIO is to establish and refine an information technology structure which increases the ability of the State agencies to deliver quality cost effective services to the citizens of Wyoming.

Wyoming Statute  9-1-222 authorizes the Governor to employ a Chief Information Officer (CIO).  Executive branch duties of the CIO are to develop a biennial information technology (IT) plan; implement and maintain an IT governance program; establish review criteria for technology projects and major purchases  (§ 9-2-1005); develop and implement recommendations for proper management of IT resources; review and make recommendations to the Governor concerning IT budget requests; adopt technical IT policies and standards and ensure agency compliance with the policies and standards; recommend IT procurement improvements; and develop and promote IT training programs.  Among all branches of government, the CIO shall encourage IT coordination, information sharing, and collaboration, including enhancing geographic information systems coordination.
