Stimulus Dollars Help Workforce Centers Serve Clients Quicker

CHEYENNE – The Department of Workforce Services, after having received funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), has used part of the dollars to install large monitors in Workforce Centers across the state. The monitors act as portals of information for clients, each featuring a hosted educational and informative video about the many programs and services available to clients through the Department.

The monitors help address wait times and eventually will feature statewide job openings for clients to consider as they wait to speak with a Workforce Specialist or to access Wyoming At Work, the Department’s online job matching system (www.wyomingatwork.com), on one of the available computers.

Joan Evans, Director of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, said, “Adding the monitors to our Resource rooms is a way for us to get information to jobseekers very rapidly so that they can start to formulate a strong process for their job search even before they are able to meet with one of our Workforce Specialists.”

In addition to the monitors, the Workforce Appraisal, a simple and quick questionnaire that assesses the needs of clients, has been created to help pre-screen job seekers for programs where they may be able to become enrolled. Evans added, “The Workforce Appraisal enables our Workforce Specialists to have a quick view of the programs that a jobseeker may qualify for which saves a lot of time as that jobseeker is trying to prepare themselves to apply for employment.” After completing the quick questionnaire, the client simply takes the printout he or she receives to a Workforce Specialist who can begin to officially qualify those clients for Agency programs.

Those interested in viewing the educational video or learning about the services offered by the Department of Workforce Services are encouraged to stop by their local Workforce Center. The video can also be viewed on the Department’s website.
