 WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL ANNOUNCES COMPETITIVE GRANT SELECTIONS

CHEYENNE - In an effort to address the needs of Wyoming’s workforce, the Wyoming Workforce Development Council has awarded several grants for Industry Partnership Solutions and Alternative and Renewable Energy Training.  Response from Wyoming businesses, educational institutions and other eligible entities was overwhelming to the RFP’s released in June 2009.  

The Council has $690,434 available for these grants and the applications received totaled over $1,447,000. There were three requests for funding for the Alternative and Renewable Energy Training totaling $230,590. The Industry Partnership Solutions had seven requests for funding totaling $1,216,838.

Joan Evan, Director of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services, said, “I commend the Wyoming Workforce Development Council for their support of these Industry Partnerships. These partnerships will help to identify solutions for critical sectors of our economy. I look forward to seeing the outcomes of their work.”

Jerimiah Rieman, Administrator for the Wyoming Workforce Development Council, said, “The Wyoming Workforce Development Council’s investment in these partnerships really demonstrates a proactive approach to solving the recruitment, development and retention issues that Wyoming’s industries face. More importantly, these grants represent a commitment to Wyoming’s workers by ensuring that jobs that pay good wages and provide benefits are available now and in the future.”

Recipients for the Industry Partnership Solutions are as follows:

Manufacturing-Works
Funding Total: $25,000

Fremont County Board of Cooperative Education Services

Funding Total: $25,000

 Wyoming Lodging and Restaurant Association Education Foundation

Funding Total: $25,000

 Fremont County Board of Cooperative Education Services

Funding Total: $25,000

 University of Wyoming

Funding Total: $280,000

 The Wyoming Workforce Development Council, in partnership with the Department of Workforce Services, selected projects and programs that address training for renewable energy occupations including residential and commercial applications. Recipients for the Alternative and Renewable Energy Training are as follows:

 Wyoming Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee

Training covering installation and maintenance of residential and commercial photovoltaic and wind systems.

Funding Total: $54,280

Laramie County Community College

Expansion of wind energy technology training opportunities.

Funding Total: $113,400

 Eastern Wyoming College

Expansion of weatherization, wind technology (turbine under 100kw), solar thermal, and photovoltaic training.

Funding Total: $79,275
