Wyoming Division of Victim Services announces stimulus grants awarded to Wyoming victim service providers

THE WYOMING DIVISION OF VICTIM SERVICES AWARDS STIMULAS GRANTS TO VICTIM SERVICE PROVIDERS |
| Cheyenne, WY, The Wyoming Division of Victim Services (DVS) announces stimulus grants awarded to Wyoming victim service providers totaling $1,211,615.
The DVS funded SFY 2010 (July 1, 2009 - June 30, 2010) proposals using the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), also known as the national economic stimulus bill authorizing an additional Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) grant and Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grant.
The main purpose of ARRA is to preserve and create jobs and promote economic recovery and places great emphasis on accountability and transparency in the use of taxpayer dollars. A complete copy of the Act can be found at http://www.recovery.gov/.
The DVS received Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) ARRA funds in the amount of $703,497.00 and Victims of Crime Act Funds (VOCA) ARRA funds in the amount of $508,118.00.
Awarded grants will fund programs to serve victims of crime. Programs include Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault programs and Victim Witness programs throughout Wyoming. These programs provide; Crisis intervention; Assistance and support during criminal justice proceedings, including post conviction assistance; Information on compensation and assistance in filing claims; Emergency financial assistance; Provide referrals to other service providers as needed; and Assistance in securing victims’ rights. Eligible programs provide basic, direct services to victims of crime and are in good standing with DVS Rules, Chapters 1 through 11.
